About
I am a textile artist and am passionate about creating machine embroideries. I have always been inspired by the natural world, and love to create embroideries using colour and light to enhance the design.
I also offer embroidery portraits which are designed from photographs. Some of my previous commissions come from Victorian photographs – you can view these in the Portrait Gallery.
Background
I obtained a BEd Hons teaching degree in 1992, where I specialised in art. I feel deeply privileged to have had the opportunity to study fields that I am passionate about. I have always loved being creative and have worked in many mediums, including: pencil, water-colour, pencil crayons, pastels and silk painting. For the last three years I have specialised exclusively in artistic embroidered pieces.
My scenic embroideries are inspired by the landscape of rural and urban environments, and I aspire to re-create the beauty of colour and light in texture. My techniques enable me to blend colours to create tonal values, and gain greater detail in larger images. I continually experiment in order to develop my designs, and to extend my skills in embroidery.
To produce the highest quality designs, I use the following equipment and software:
- Brother Luminaire XP1 Sewing and Embroidery Machine
- Brother PE-Design 10
- Adobe Photoshop Elements
- Adobe Lightroom
- Topaz
- Dell XPS13 Laptop & Epson XP-8600 series Printer & Scanner
- Floriani and Madeira Embroidery Thread
