I offer high-quality Embroidery Portrait Commissions

I undertake commissions for black & white (head and shoulder) portraits. Monochrome works particularly well, because the limited palette adds atmosphere to the sitter.

Embroidered portraits are based on customers own photographs, which can be very old indeed. The quality of the photograph is important, as not all photographs can be digitised to a high enough standard. The most suitable photographs have a high DPI (dots per inch), though they don’t necessarily need to be the highest quality. I invest a huge amount of time enhancing photographs using Adobe Photoshop Elements, Adobe Lightroom and Topaz: these are very powerful, image-editing programs.

I use the best  Floriani and Madeira thread, which consists of over 600 colours. They guarantee colour fastness and strength, although no embroidery should be left in the sun.

I use the Brother PE-Design 10 software to create all my embroidered artwork. Many hours of work are required when designing pieces: stitch density, pull compensation and stitch count, must be accurately gauged in order to attain the highest image detail. I have selected the best grey-scale ranges and programmed them into PE-Design. This is crucial because the best tonal values of each grey colour generate a powerful three-dimensional quality in the portrait.

I use Brother Luminaire Embroidery and Sewing Machine. The largest hoop-size for this machine enables embroidered portraits of up to 272mm x 408mm. (11  x 16 inches)

All Portrait Commissions are DOUBLE MOUNTED and un-framed.
