Portrait Embroidery of an African girl from Mankodi in Botswana
Finding the right image to use for an embroidery can take weeks or months. Even then, I can think it will work and embroider it out, only to be disappointed with the end results! So when it works, it is very rewarding.
The photo that I designed the embroidery from was taken by Lucian Coman. The little girl was from the Mankodi village in Botswana.
It is entitled: He took the children in his arms and placed his hands on their heads and blessed them. Mark 10:16
I added more shades of grey thread to enhance the tonal shades in her face and it is the largest portrait I have completed to date. 165mm x 280mm
The little girl holds your gaze with her penetrating eyes. She seems curious, but wary.
